BVN has designed the Sirius Redevelopment, a residential redevelopment of the iconic brutalist building in The Rocks, Sydney, Australia.
Following the sale of the iconic Sirius building to JDH Capital, BVN won the design competition in 2019 and was subsequently appointed to retain, restore and reimagine the building.
Both the developer and the architect were united in their mission to retain the architectural integrity of the building originally designed in the late 1970s by Tao Gofers.
"Sirius stands as a surviving example of Brutalist architecture, renowned for its bold geometry, expressed concrete construction, and iconic stature," said BVN.
These distinctive elements underpin BVN's redesign, with the original facade and proportions retained and restored, complemented by thoughtful interventions.
This project has been shortlisted in the housing category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
