NWLND Rogiers Vandeputte and Kris Broidioi have designed Atelier PPW, a sustainable, flexible technical school that integrates community, education and ecology through a minimalist, adaptable structure in Ostend, Belgium.

Atelier PPW is a multifunctional extension of VTI Ostend, that replaces a structurally compromised building with an open, light-filled atelier space for technical education.

This project combines architecture, education and sustainability, serving both students and the wider neighbourhood. By using a strategy of disassembly and minimal material use, the glazed volume integrates reused materials and flexible partitioning.

In addition, external circulation cores and a planted canopy enhance flexibility, accessibility and environmental performance.

As a result, Atelier PPW is both a working space and a living classroom – an evolving, visible showcase of technical education and sustainable construction, adding colourful joy to life.

This project has been shortlisted in the education project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
