Shortlisted for Dezeen Awards 2025 architect of the year, MVRDV was launched in 1993 by architects Winy Maas, Jacob van Rijs and Nathalie de Vries.
Initially established in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the practice has grown to a team of over 300 people, with offices in Shanghai, Paris, Berlin and New York.
MVRDV's projects are rooted in providing solutions to contemporary architectural and urban issues. The practice has a research-based approach and collaboratively works with experts from all fields to develop projects towards a more sustainable future.
In collaboration with Delft University of Technology, MVRDV runs The Why Factory, a research institute and independent think tank, focused on developing sustainable solutions and envisioning the city of the future.
The practice recently overhauled a former World War Two German military base into housing and has unveiled its designs for a series of rock-shaped buildings for the Nature Rocks tourist centre in southern Taiwan.
MVRDV is shortlisted in the architect of the year category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
