Winner: Sustainable building of the year 2025. Pablo Luna Studio has designed Intaaya Retreat, a retreat that offers immersive experiences through thoughtful architecture and a deep respect for the environment in Nusa Penida, Indonesia.
Intaaya Retreat is a regenerative project in Nusa Penida that combines organic architecture with intentional, low-impact construction.
Its five main structures – the Manta Yoga Shala, Shell Restaurant, Shell Spa, Fish Tail Tea Room and Shell Lobby – are shaped by natural oceanic forms that invite reflection, restoration and transformation.
Built using local bamboo, limestone and rammed earth, the architecture integrates renewable energy, rainwater harvesting and filtration and conscious waste systems.
Designed to nurture a deeper connection to nature and local culture, Intaaya is pursuing EDGE certification, pioneering this benchmark in Bali and across Indonesia.
Judge comments: "With the Intaaya Retreat, Pablo Luna Studio has delivered a hotel complex that proves the value of Bali's vernacular architecture and local craft skills in delivering sustainable buildings.
Although the hotel is exclusive in its use, the studio has made efforts to share its building techniques with other practitioners through affordable online masterclasses, in a bid to extend the benefits of bamboo and rammed earth construction to a larger scale."
