Winner: Sustainable interior of the year 2025. Spring Studio has designed the World Heritage Centre Wadden Sea (WEC)'s communal interior spaces to reflect the dynamic essence of the Wadden Sea, using locally sourced, biobased materials in Lauwersoog, Netherlands.

The World Heritage Centre Wadden Sea (WEC) in Lauwersoog is a multifunctional hub combining research, education and wildlife care.

The building embodies the unique transition between land and sea. Spring Studio crafted the interior to reflect the rhythm and richness of the Wadden landscape, using organic forms, tactile materials and sustainably sourced, locally made furnishings.

These include shells on the reception desk, an algae welcome object, coastal grass on the tables, citywood, hemp and flax lighting and chairs, in an effort to raise environmental awareness and regional engagement.

Judge comments: "The WEC stood out for its truly mind-boggling materiality, integrating not just one but more than ten different sustainable materials developed especially for the project."

"Most importantly, they were made using regionally available resources to promote care for the local ecology and fabricated with an incredible attention to detail that photos struggle to do justice."
