Surface Design has designed the Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa Valley, California, United States

Situated at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains in Napa Valley, the Mondavi Winery redefines the relationship between architecture, landscape and viticulture, embodying the site's ecology and connection to the To Kalon vineyard.

Building on Robert Mondavi's legacy across Napa Valley, the design addresses fragmented conditions, creating a cohesive landscape framework rooted in the winery's historical, agricultural and ecological context.

Environmental constraints – water use, irrigation demand and long-term resilience – shaped the approach, while ensuring its architecture and landscape work in tandem to inspire a thoughtful experience tied to the vineyard, valley and the Mayacamas Mountains.

By re-establishing a coherent relationship, this project becomes an engaging vehicle for understanding one of Napa Valley's most significant agricultural landscapes, offering a more inclusive and legible experience that allows a broader range of visitors to experience the connection between land, wine production and place.
