Maissi bench
by Studio Kaksikko for Skagerak Denmark

Shortlisted for furniture design of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, Maissi Bench is an asymmetric two-person bench made from light oak wood by Studio Kaksikko.

The bench, designed by the Helsinki-based studio for Skagerak Denmark, has both round and edgy forms inspired by old stair handrails and industrial machinery parts. Its curved elements are formed by laminating thin strips of oak in cylindrical moulds. Strongly influenced by the industrial spirit of the 1930s and 40s, the design comes from an interpretation of old stair handrails and metal bunk beds.
