Biasol Studio has refreshed and modernised a Spanish colonial house in Brighton, UK.
Rebecca and Chris Judd asked Biasol Design Studio to create their home in Brighton with the aim of supporting the family's active lifestyle and reflecting their love of design.
Evoking the glamour of Hollywood in the early 1900s, its Mediterranean-style arches, courtyards and colonnades provided a strong foundation for creating a modern family home.
The studio refreshed the home to create functional, flexible spaces with a modern Melbourne-design aesthetic, while maintaining the European character and warmth. Dated elements were removed such as floor finishes, fixtures, cornices, the apricot render and terracotta roof tiles.
The exterior now has dark Canadian-slate roof tiles, sleek black architraves and a heavily textured concrete render that reflects the character of the city.
The grand staircase at the entrance has been modernised with cladding, marble treads and a black handrail accentuating the clean lines of its spiral form.
