House in Kyoto is a wood-filled home built around a central courtyard, providing residents with natural lighting without compromising their privacy.
As the house is located in a dense residential area close to its neighbours, a courtyard was deemed the best way to bring sunlight inside while maintaining the residents' privacy.
The studio realised the courtyard would be too tight if it was enclosed by a glazed wall. To give a sense of spaciousness, and a closer relation to greenery, the enclosure around the courtyard was therefore removed from the plan and a tree was planted in the room.
The house was finished with timber and a forest-like mural was added to the bathroom.
