Maidan Tent
by ABVM Studio

ABVM Studio

Maidan Tent has been designed to help refugees living in makeshift camps to socialise and complete activities in an indoor public space.

The structure is a covered welcoming square, designed to host a variety of different activities. The center of the tent is used as an open meeting space, enclosed by a ring of semi-private spaces where people can gather to freely pursue their activities.

The tent is four-meters high and can accommodate more than 200 people. The aluminum structure is covered with a water and wind-resistant, fireproof textile.

The word "maidan" means "square" in Arabic.

This project has been longlisted in the small building category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
