Issey Miyake Semba
by Noma

Shortlisted for large retail interior of the year at Dezeen Awards 2020, Issey Miyake Semba is the Japanese fashion house's flagship store in Osaka, Japan, designed by Noma.

The flagship store is situated in the heart of Osaka, Japan, known as the "city surrounded by water," with an interior concept driven by storytelling that merges site heritage, craftsmanship and the spirit of the brand. Like Venice, Osaka is a city of canals that is shaped by water.

For the design, the studio envisioned Miyake's creativity gushing through one colossal conduit and then flowing through a series of re-contextualised pipes, soap-shaped forms and playful water-related design details throughout the store.

The store was produced in partnership with highly-skilled local steel craftsmen.
