AML Design Studio has transformed a traditional courtyard on the outskirts of Beijing into two parts; a private residence and a youth hostel.

The design rotates the triangular house by 50 degrees, separating two outdoor courtyards of different sizes, one relatively private and the other is more open, reconstructing the original courtyard pattern, allowing elderly and residents to meet up and meet each other while maintaining their privacy.

This project has been longlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
