Studio O+A has produced a workspace in California in keeping with a firm's new location.
The project is borne of the firm's move within San Francisco from the gritty downtown intersection of Market Street to the quieter Jackson Square neighbourhood. As an area steeped in local history, it offers a brick-and-stone architecture that is among the city's oldest.
The design addresses the challenge of a load-bearing wall bisecting the space, which was felt to be an impediment to the welcoming spirit the firm wanted to convey. The result was a single, encircling ribbon of activity that unites the spaces with rounded forms, curved edges and sleek surfaces ensuring flow amid a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
