Shenzhen Huahui Design has created a welcome for visitors to China's scenic Gulao Water Town spot.

The project was conceived for cultural-ecological tourism resort Gulao Water Town, located by the beautiful Xijiang River in Jiangmen city in Guangdong Province and famous for its lotus flowers.

Comprising a viewing area on the top, a rest area in the middle and an exhibition area on the bottom, the structure is based on ecological elements from its setting encompassed within the design. The roof uses local natural material hemp rope to provide shade from the sun, while the abstract form recalls the delicate folds of a lotus leaf in three dimensions.

This project has been longlisted in the civic building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
