Tsuruta Architects has created a micro development on a small infill site in a deprived area of London with playful touches in homage to the neighbourhood's feline motif.

The project is located on Catford Broadway, and is part of a local council's wider regeneration project to revitalise the high street which struggles with footfall in a deprived part of London.

The five apartments were created within a micro development on a small infill site, sitting above and behind two existing shops by way of refurbishing and extending a pair of terraced houses.

Featuring thousands of cat clues, such as the external staircase metal screen perforated with hundreds of cat-shaped holes, the innovative contemporary design reflects a new attitude to the quality of spaces in Catford, and creates intrigue with its own imagined history constructed around local heritage and fictional narrative.

This project has been longlisted in the housing project category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
