One Plus Partnership Limited has designed Wan Fat Jinyi Cinema in Shenzhen, China.

This project's core design concept for the cinema was the "stage". Since the old days, the stage has served as a space for actors or performers and a focal point – the screen in cinemas – for the audience.

The designers extracted and placed a strong emphasis on the stage lighting as one of the main elements of this project design. "We extracted the stage lighting as the main element for this project design," said One Plus Partnership. "It also links back to one of the unique features of this cinema. It does not only show movies but has live performances, too."

In the auditorium, the patterns on the walls and seatings resemble traces of light shining from spotlights. By using just different combinations of colours, the designers have managed to give variety to the design with the lowest possible costs. In addition, repeating the stage lighting element throughout the space has greatly improved efficiency.

This project has been shortlisted in the leisure and wellness interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
