Tokujin Yoshioka

Tokujin Yoshioka will sit on the design panel for Dezeen Awards 2025

Japanese designer and artist Tokujin Yoshioka works on contemporary projects spanning architecture, design and art through his self-named studio Tokujin Yoshioka.

Before founding his practice in 2000, Yoshioka worked for Shiro Kuramata, one of the most important designers of the 20th century and fashion innovator Issey Miyake.

Notable projects include the Tokyo 2020 Olympic torch inspired by Japanese cherry blossoms, a cloud-like installation with suspended acrylic rods in Houston, a science fiction-inspired light installation in Milan, and a transparent glass tea house in Japan.

His work has been exhibited in permanent collections at renowned institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Musée National d'Art Moderne and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Recognised for his contributions to design, Yoshioka has won several international awards, including Design Miami's Designer of the Year and the Milano Design Award.

Newsweek magazine named the designer one of the 100 Most Respected Japanese in the World.
