Yu2e has designed Axolotl, a seven-dwelling apartment in Los Angeles, United States.
This project reimagines the future of Los Angeles housing by resuscitating and combining attributes of past successful types, like bungalow courts and dingbat apartments.
Los Angeles and many metropolitan centres in the US are in dire need of diverse housing options. This project utilises a new development standard known as Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) that reduces parking requirements and increases density to incentivise more middle housing in Los Angeles.
"TOC would also create design opportunities for more livable and interesting arrangements that exceed what is possible with the typical apartment block," said Yu2e.
This project has been longlisted in the housing category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
