Hassell has designed the Bidi Bidi Performing Arts Centre, a place for cultural expression, collaboration and community in Bidi Bidi, Uganda.

The Bidi Bidi Performing Arts Centre in northern Uganda is a collaborative project led by to.org alongside Hassell, LocalWorks and Arup, to create a community hub empowering creativity, creating opportunity and bringing dignity to the plight of refugees.

Designed as a sheltered, semi-open-air amphitheatre, the centre serves as a performance venue and community gathering space, including classrooms, music training spaces and a recording studio.

In addition, the centre's roof design, shaped like a funnel to maximise rainwater collection, provides water to the community and supports essential facilities such as a tree nursery and vegetable garden.

This project has been longlisted in the cultural project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
