Urban Ecologies Design Lab has renovated Housing in Place: Building Community, a collaborative and multi-phase social impact project in Hong Kong.
Housing in Place is a collaborative and multi-phase project that provides urgently needed community centres and housing shelters by adapting vacant buildings at centrally located sites through an urban-scale creative reuse process designed to be flexible and movable.
This project occupies three sites in Hong Kong's Kowloon district, one of the most densely populated areas in the world and the most expensive property market.
It applies urban planning and design practices at the scale of architectural interiors, addressing the extreme challenges posed by exorbitant real estate markets in cities like Hong Kong.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable renovation category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
