Jamestown has designed Maaskant Park, a once-private industrial courtyard, into a vibrant, publicly accessible green oasis in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Maaskant Park, developed by Jamestown with landscaping by local firm Blooming Buildings, transforms the formerly private courtyard of Rotterdam’s iconic Groot Handelsgebouw into a publicly accessible green space.
Repurposing an elevated delivery street that runs through the core of the building, Jamestown created a vibrant urban park with over 500 plant species, colourful seating and recreational areas, including a pétanque court.
By opening the park to the public, Jamestown advances Rotterdam's goals of increasing biodiversity and reducing urban heat stress – while preserving the building's legacy and fostering a deeper connection between the community and this historic landmark.
This project has been longlisted in the landscape and urban design category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
