AP Valletta has refurbished and extended Naxxar House, an existing 18th-century rural palazzino in Naxxar, Malta.
This project introduces a crafted stone screen over the building's single-story wing to balance privacy, light and historic character.
Located just outside Naxxar's Urban Conservation Area, the house is surrounded by high-rise developments that overshadow its low volumes and garden.
The intervention addresses these challenges with a privacy-focused design that integrates existing architecture and traditional construction techniques, using Franka, the typical Maltese soft stone.
This project also improves the residence's connection to the gardens, converting an adjacent loggia into a living space and a garden room into a guest studio.
This project has been longlisted in the heritage project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
