Sabine Marcelis has designed Orbit, a scalable aluminium lighting piece made for Hydro's R100 exhibition and showcased at Milan Design Week 2025.
Orbit is a lighting piece created by Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis for Hydro's R100 project, made from Hydro CIRCAL 100R, recycled aluminium made from 100 per cent post-consumer scrap.
The entire production process was done within a 100-kilometre radius in the Netherlands and Belgium.
The piece consists of a single curved extrusion that acts as both structure and diffuser. When dimmed, light moves across the surface in a way that mimics orbital motion.
Orbit reframes industrial aluminium extrusion as a means of spatial expression, combining technical precision with a low-carbon footprint.
This project has been longlisted in the lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
