RCNKSK has designed the Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel in Nesvačilka, Czech Republic.

Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel in Nesvačilka blends medieval craftsmanship with contemporary technologies, where this timber and stone sanctuary offers a space for contemplation and community.

The chapel stands as a dialogue between tradition and innovation, shaped by the community's long-held desire for a sacred gathering place.

The design is set in the south Moravian undulating landscape, rising from a foundation of quarried stone and crowned by a delicate timber structure.

Seven hand-carved beams reach skyward, symbolising the Seven Sorrows of Mary, while a veil of light filters through narrow openings, evoking the presence of the divine.

Every element – rammed earth flooring, CNC-milled wooden joints, and handcrafted details – was chosen to endure, both physically and spiritually, throughout time.

This project has been longlisted in the civic project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
