Marc Koehler Associates has designed Republica, a pioneering circular urban village in Buiksloterham, the Netherlands.
Republica is a circular urban village and a pioneering project in the sustainable transformation of Buiksloterham, a former industrial area in Amsterdam North.
This high-density, mixed-use development combines residential, work, leisure, hospitality and e-mobility within a cohesive urban block of six adaptable, sculptural buildings and green public spaces.
Together, they form a social ecosystem and a cooperative for energy, waste management and mobility.
Republica is a prototype for the future of circular, collective, mixed-use living within a climate-positive, zero-emission and circular superblock.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable building category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
