Kit has designed the Sports Halls BZT Frauenfeld, constructed from beetle wood sourced from the public client's own state forest in Frauenfeld, Switzerland.

The innovative timber construction of the two stacked halls is characterised by its efficient use of space and sustainable design, which conserves land resources.

"This is the first sports hall in Switzerland to feature a timber-concrete composite ceiling," said Kit.

Another special feature is the use of regional beetle wood from the public client's own state forest, which minimises transport and production chains and leads to a massive reduction in the environmental impact and promotion of the local economy.

"Almost the entire building is made of wood that grows back in the Swiss forest in around 30 minutes," added Kit.

This project has been longlisted in the sustainable building category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
