Stolon Studio has designed the Stables Yard, a vibrant, low-carbon housing scheme on a small site in London, England.
Stables Yard is a sociable housing project on a backland site in South London, delivering six vibrant new homes and a converted coach house.
Despite the challenges facing small sites, the project creates a flood-resilient, low-carbon, sustainable development – within budget.
Featuring high-performance fabric, MVHR, ASHP and solar PV – achieving EPC A and just 0.1 tonnes of CO2 per home annually. The scheme rethinks urban infill by embedding sociable space – shared outdoor and communal areas – into its architecture.
These spaces support interaction, shared resources and neighbourly connection, offering a replicable model for how housing can foster community on small sites.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable building category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
