Terrain has designed the interiors of and opened Terrain, the first ecologically oriented bookshop, gallery and studio in Melbourne, Australia.

Designed in-house by studio founder Cristina Napoleone, Terrain is both a showroom and sanctuary for a new type of spatial practice: one that weaves ecological literacy, community, sustainable design and care for the more-than-human world into a public, tactile experience.

The space merges its physical and digital ecosystems through bespoke design features, including algae-based bioplastic panel blinds, mycelium lights, recycled plastic and aluminium furnishings, an interactive sound design and a renewably powered web server.

Terrain embodies its studio mission in practice as Australia's new independent destination for the convergence of ecological and more-than-human literature, materiality and ideas.

This project has been longlisted in the sustainable interior category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
