Winner: Small project of the year 2025. Atelier Xi has designed the AYDC Public Art Center, a constellation of sculptural spaces thoughtfully dispersed throughout the landscape of Guiyang, China.
The AYDC Public Art Center is a constellation of sculptural spaces – Xima Library, Ginkgo Chapel – dispersed across Guiyang's landscape.
Inspired by Guizhou's native caves, each pavilion emerges from the terrain as a poetic interplay of form, light and nature.
Crafted from porous travertine and stainless steel, the structures invite wind, light and seasonal change to shape an immersive experience.
Designed for reading, performance, and reflection, the centre fosters independent artistic gathering while seamlessly integrating architecture with local memory, natural rhythm and public life – redefining architecture as a medium for community, imagination and sensory connection.
Judge comments: "The three sculptural elements – that each have unique identities while clearly being related – create a largely open canvas for performance and other events. They provide both intrigue and flexibility and at the same time visually elevate the space."
