Winner: Hotel and short-stay interior of the year 2025. Studio Aluc has revoated the interiors of Nazuna Kyoto Higashihonganji, a 100-year-old Kyo-machiya in Kyoto, Japan.

Nazuna Kyoto Higashihonganji is a renovation project of a Kyo-machiya located directly in front of the Goei-do Gate of Higashi Honganji Temple.

"Respecting the deep history and intricate structure of this Kyo-machiya, we carefully incorporated modern comforts," said Studio Aluc.

As a result, Nazuno Kyoto Higashihonganji has created a space that carries the charm of traditional Kyoto townhouses into the future.

Judges comments: "When working within existing buildings, architects and interior designers have a responsibility to give them a new life. Here, that really resonates. Old and new come together in a whole that feels contemporary, even though it looks warm and aged. The project speaks to the Japanese philosophy of embracing darkness and celebrating natural, raw materials."
