Mecanoo has renovated De Nederlandsche Bank in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

De Nederlandsche Bank has undergone a major renovation to transform its 1968 headquarters into a transparent, circular landmark.

Following the relocation of gold reserves, the opportunity arose to open the building to the public in an engaging way.

"The most secretive part of the bank is now its most public: the new treasury," said Mecanoo.

A new entrance now cuts straight through the former gold vault, where visitors can experience exhibitions.

The design replaces a former round tower with a publicly accessible city garden and a street for social interaction. Inside, a new five-storey atrium revives the historic 'people’s palace' vision.
