AtMa has designed the interiors of Kamakura House in Kamakura, Japan.
Kamakura House is the full renovation of a 40-year-old timber residence designed by AtMa as their own home in Kamakura.

Rather than treating renovation as replacement, this project explores how architecture can continue evolving through time.

Existing spatial qualities, structural flexibility and material continuity were reinterpreted to create a home capable of adapting to changing seasons and ways of living.

A previously unused raised-floor void was reconstructed as an insulated DOMA space – while exposing the timber structure to restore airflow, natural light and spatial openness, creating a home where different rhythms of living, environmental change and multiple temporalities coexist.
