Kirkby Design has designed the Underground Vol III.

Underground Vol III is a distinct collection of upholstery velvets derived from original, iconic designs historically used across the TfL network.

Kirkby has reinterpreted and recoloured eight archive designs that were used across London Transport lines from the 1910s to the present day.

From the 1930s, Christian Barman was London Transport's Publicity Officer. During this time, Christian commissioned special upholstery designs from artists and designers including Marion Dorn, Norbert Dutton, Enid Marx, Paul Nash and later, Marianne Straub.

Underground Vol III sophisticatedly commemorates an iconic and integral aspect of London's design identity, tapping once again into the rich legacy of Transport for London.
