MA Product Design at Istituto Marangoni

The MA Product Design programme at Istituto Marangoni gives students the tools to follow a sustainable and responsible design process, in line with industry standards.

School: Istituto Marangoni
Course: MA Product Design
Location: London, UK
Course dates: October 2024 to January 2026
Application deadline: 31 October 2024

The MA Product Design programme is designed to have a strong focus on research, process, materiality, creative problem solving and design innovation, where technology supports traditional design skills refined through CAD detailing, 3D modelling, 3D visualisation, 3D printing and AR/VR applications.

Participants are encouraged to challenge design paradigms, exploring concepts around regenerative design and luxury paradigms within furniture, lighting and refined homeware design.

'Responsibility' is at the forefront of contemporary product design practice through the analysis of aesthetics and function, material selection, construction methods, product lifespan considerations, distribution factors and product disposal initiatives, embracing a 'cradle to cradle' design approach.

The programme structure ensures that students have the opportunity to develop as responsible designers and global citizens through contemporary product design practice, evidenced through a well-constructed, industry-relevant curriculum.

Industry mentors are invited to deliver guest lectures and students have the opportunity to participate in global collaborative projects and international design competitions in addition to a three-month industry placement in London.

Field trips to professional studio practices within London form an essential learning component within the programme in addition to international networking opportunities. Previous visiting international professional designers and mentors include Karim Rashid and Tom Dixon.
