Virtual Design Festival's top 10 most popular videos

Since VDF launched on 15 April, we have broadcast nearly 200 videos, which have been viewed more than two million times. Here are the 10 most-watched movies.


 

1. Orange Juice for the Ears

The most popular VDF video is this documentary about Beatie Wolfe, which we premiered as part of our collaboration with the musician. The film has been watched over 60,000 times.


 

2. Studio Drift's Franchise Freedom drone performance

In second place is Studio Drift's performance featuring 300 choreographed drones flying over Rotterdam to celebrate Freedom Day in the Netherlands, which we streamed live and has been viewed 50,000 times.


 

3. VDF launch video

We opened VDF with a movie featuring messages from 35 creatives around the world, with an opening sequence filmed at Bar Basso in Milan. The video has received over 35,000 views, making it the third-most-popular VDF video.


 

4. Iris van Herpen video interview

We published a series of three exclusive video interviews with Iris van Herpen as part of VDF. In the first and most-watched movie in the series, the fashion designer explains how her training as a ballet dancer led her to pioneer the use of new technologies and materials in haute couture. It has been watched over 34,000 times.


 

5. Live interview with Kengo Kuma

Virtual Design Festival teamed up with CAMP, Prague's centre for architecture and urban planning, to present a day of talks, which started with a live lecture by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma from his office in Tokyo. 33,000 people tuned in to watch it.


 

6. SO-IL Currents documentary

This documentary about the work of architect SO-IL was premiered on VDF as part of our collaboration with Lisbon's MAAT museum. So far the video has been played more than 32,000 times.


 

7. Screentime interview with Harriet Harriss

Throughout VDF, we broadcast a series of live Screentime interviews with leading architects sponsored by Enscape. The most popular in the series was this interview with Harriet Harriss, dean of the Pratt Institute School of Architecture in New York, which has been watched 25,000 times.


 

8. Weird Sensation Feels Good exhibition tour

As part of its takeover of Virtual Design Festival, Sweden’s national centre for architecture and design ArkDes gave Dezeen readers a guided video tour of its current exhibition exploring the phenomenon of Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR). Hosted by curator James Taylor-Foster, the tour has been watched over 23,000 times.


 

9. Unseen drone footage of Arthur Mamou-Mani's Galaxia Burning Man installation

This previously unseen drone footage of Arthur Mamou-Mani's Galaxia temple at the 2018 Burning Man festival has been watched more than 22,000 times. The French architect shared the footage as part of a collaboration with VDF that also saw him give a virtual-reality tour of his Catharsis amphitheatre, which would have been installed at this year's festival.


 

10. Screentime interview with Adam Nathaniel Furman

Rounding out the top 10 is this interview with Adam Nathaniel Furman, in which he defined the New London Fabulous movement of designers who embrace colour, pattern and ornament in their work. It is part of a series of 10 live Screentime interviews with leading European designers sponsored by Philips TV & Sound.
