Justina Blakeney, Keiji Ashizawa and Claudia Afshar announced as Dezeen Awards 2024 judges

Architects Keiji Ashizawa and Arjun Malik, artist Justina Blakeney, interior designer Claudia Afshar and graphic designer Ian Cartlidge have been announced as Dezeen Awards 2024 judges.

Dezeen Awards 2024 launched on 13 February in partnership with Bentley. Submit your entry by Wednesday 27 March to save 20 per cent on entry fees.

Now in its seventh year, the programme has become the ultimate accolade for architects and designers everywhere, with winners selected by a prestigious panel of international judges.

Justina Blakeney
US artist Blakeney is the founder of bohemian home decor brand Jungalow

Creative director Blakeney runs her Los Angeles-based home decor brand Jungalow and will join Patricia Urquiola on the interiors judging panel.

The artist uses bright colours and bohemian styles to create prints inspired by her travels and the vegetation in her native California. Her designs start with hand-drawn illustrations, watercolours and paints that are manufactured into prints, wallpaper, bedding, pillows and rugs.

She has collaborated with companies including toy brand Barbie and US retailer Target. Last year she worked on a bathroom collection featuring a vintage colour palette named Peachblow Paradise for bathroom and kitchen brand Kohler.

Keiji Ashizawa
Keiji Ashizawa Design is an architectural and product design studio based in Tokyo

Japanese architect Ashizawa, founder of Keiji Ashizawa Design, will be joining Shawn Adams on the architecture panel.

The Tokyo-based architect has international projects spanning architecture, interior and design. He is the recipient of multiple awards and his project Hiroo Residence was shortlisted for home interior of the year in Dezeen Award 2023.

Recently the architect designed a skincare clinic using minimalist materials in Tokyo and Trunk Hotel Yoyogi Park in collaboration with Danish firm Norm Architects, as well as numerous Blue Bottle Coffee shops, including an oval-shaped cafe with a glazed facade and a coffee shop in in Kobe's Hankyu department store with a take-out counter display window.

Claudia Afshar
Claudia Afshar Design is an interior design firm, specialising in luxury residential, hospitality and commercial interiors

Afshar is the principal and founder of Claudia Afshar Design and will join Blakeney on the interiors judging panel.

The California-based interior designer has showcased her residential, commercial and hospitality projects in publications including Architectural Digest, Elle Decor and Dezeen.

Last year Afshar collaborated with Spanish surface manufacturer Cosentino to launch Dekton Ukiyo, a fluted tile collection informed by Japanese contemporary design.

Arjun Malik
Mumbai-based Malik will be on the architecture judging panel this year

Joining Ashizawa on the architecture judging panel will be Mumbai-based architect Malik.

Malik is a principal architect at the Indian multi-disciplinary practice Malik Architecture. The studio's portfolio of work spans residential, commercial, healthcare, hospitality, educational, and cultural projects as well as masterplans.

Recent projects by Malik Architecture include a renovated ice factory into a contemporary gallery and event space in Mumbai and a rural home named Lateral Verandah House featuring an angular metal roof near Pune, India.

Ian Cartlidge
Northumberland-born Cartlidge specialises in the creation of identity and visual language

Cartlidge is the co-founder of design studio Cartlidge Levene and will sit alongside Faye Toogood on the design panel for this year's awards.

The London-based designer works in wayfinding and environmental graphics to create unique visitor experiences for museums and galleries including the Tate Modern, The Design Museum, V&A Dundee and Musée d'Arts de Nantes.

Recognised for his award-winning designs in print, identity and graphics, Cartlidge was awarded Royal Designer for Industry in recognition of his sustained design excellence by the London organisation Royal Society of Arts (RSA).
