This week on Dezeen, Elon Musk announced plans to open a semiconductor factory near Houston, Texas, with a floor area of 100 million square feet that will make it the largest building in the world.
The Terafab factory, a joint chip-building venture for Musk's companies Tesla and SpaceX, will cover an area equivalent to more than 1,700 American football fields in Grimes County, if completed.
It would steal the crown from the current largest building by floor area, Russia's 65 million-square-foot (six million-square-metre) AvtoVAZ main assembly building.
In other technology news, Dezeen revealed that companies publishing realistic AI-generated architectural renderings in the European Union without labelling them risk being fined under a new law that came into force earlier this month.
"If it's realistic scenery with people walking around and it is AI generated, it will need to be labelled as AI generated," said Szymon Sieniewicz, a counsel at law firm Addleshaw Goddard.
In the US, California start-up Satyress unveiled a centaur-like robot called Threehalves, complete with a goat-shaped head.
The four-legged machine, called Threehalves, can be equipped with tools including a chainsaw and remote operated to take on demanding jobs that would put humans at risk of harm.
Automotive company Jaguar has shared a first look at the interior of its upcoming Type 01 electric car – the production version of the controversial Type 00 concept unveiled in 2024.
Renders of the interior show a central divider that runs the full length of the car, effectively separating all of the seats.
In architecture news, UK practice Heatherwick Studio has unveiled scaled-back plans for its redevelopment of an elevated waterfront park in Louisville, Kentucky.
The updated design for the Belvedere park extends green spaces across an existing overpass over a six-lane highway, but is much less ambitious than the original undulating design unveiled by the studio last year due to expense and safety concerns.
Projects that turned our readers' heads this week included a crystal-shaped sauna in Sweden, a cedar-wrapped gallery on a secluded Washington island and a mass-timber groundscraper in Auckland that resembles a "continuous ribbon".
