Powerhouse Brattørkaia
by Snøhetta

Ivar Kvaal

Powerhouse Brattørkaia is an angular office building in Norway, which is clad in solar panels that produce more than double the amount of energy it consumes daily.

The energy sector and building industry accounts for over 40 percent of global industry's heat-trapping emissions combined.

As the world's population grows and the severity of the climate crisis continue to worsen, we are challenged to think how to build responsibly – creating high-quality spaces for people while reducing our environmental footprint.

As the world's northernmost energy-positive building, Powerhouse Brattørkaia aims to set a new standard for the construction of the building of tomorrow: one that produces more energy than it consumes over its lifespan, including construction, operations, demolition and the embodied energy in the materials used to construct the building.

This project has been longlisted in the business building category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
