El Barrio Bait Station
by Jacobs Chang Architecture

Ryan Lahiff

Jacobs Chang Architecture has designed a fish bait station located along the East River Esplanade at 100th Street in upper Manhattan.

This pilot project was initiated to assist an enthusiastic community of anglers that utilise a popular stretch of New York's East River.

The installation melds art, function, and community by providing a useful working bait station, and by bringing innovative design to a waterfront in need of investment and reinvention.

Constructed of corten steel, it provides a rare ADA-compliant surface for prepping bait, gutting and cleaning fish.

This project has been longlisted in the infrastructure project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
