Kim Colin

American architect Kim Colin is co-founder, with partner Sam Hecht, of London-based studios Industrial Facility and Future Facility.

Kim Colin was born in California where she attended UCLA and earned an architecture masters from SCI-Arc in Los Angeles.

In 2002, she co-founded Industrial Facility, bringing her architectural perspective to the practice of industrial design. Colin and Hecht started Future Facility in 2016 to propose conceptual and potentially disruptive projects involving technology and IoT.

Colin considers her work reflects meticulous attention to detail and a thoughtful consideration of context, creating beauty out of utility. Writing is an important part of her practice, where she articulates a contextual narrative beyond the physical object.

Colin designs for international companies including Herman Miller, Muji, Emeco, Novo Nordisk, Epson, Kristalia, Wästberg, Mattiazzi and Takt Studio. Her work has received 6 IF Gold Awards and can be found in permanent design collections worldwide. She was named a Royal Designer for Industry in 2015 and has taught at the AA, the Royal College of Art and ÉCAL.

Industrial Facility’s first monograph was published by Phaidon Press in 2019.
