Fernanda Ahumada has completed Mexico City's National Biodiversity Pavilion, featuring an aluminium panel facade that responds to light and wind.

The pavilion houses the collections and archives of the Institute of Biology in radial floor plans, with a DNA-inspired central staircase.

Collections are stored in the structure's innermost ring, and research spaces in the outermost, offering natural light and volcanic landscape views.

Inside the building, wave-like aluminium modules adapt to the interior's lighting needs.

The first floor integrates the surroundings with expansive windows, while the upper floors provide controlled views through the dynamic facade. The foundation uses local volcanic stone.

This project has been longlisted in the cultural project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
