Domani Architectural Concepts has designed Guangzhou Julong Bay Exhibition Center on the west bank of Pearl River in China.

The new construction embodies a triangular shape, symbolising the government-supported development of Guangzhou West Bank.

The original building was a 1950s grain warehouse consisting of four independent brick buildings, which the architect sought to preserve as much as possible.

To echo the original structure, the new construction used replica industrial red brick and followed the sloping angle of the original roof.

In the design, Domani aimed to foster indoor-outdoor interaction by connecting with the surroundings and landscape.

The centre's steel-roofed structure stretches horizontally, creating a semi-sheltered zone along the river's west side to encourage engagement with the riverside leisure area.

This project has been longlisted in the heritage project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
