Melanie Keen

London-based arts professional Melanie Keen is the director of Wellcome Collection.

Before joining the Wellcome Collection, she was the director and chief Curator at the Institute of International Visual Arts (Iniva). Keen has also worked as a curator in arts policy and funding at the Arts Council England. 

The arts professional is an advisor and a trustee at several organisations including the Government Art Collection, the Pitt Rivers Museum, the British Council Collection and Raven Row Gallery, London.

Keen was an advisor for the 2017 Suffrage Statue Commission by Gillian Wearing, the first female artist in Parliament Square. 

She was also on the selection committee for the British Pavilion, Venice Biennale 2019, and was on the judging panel for Art Fund Museum of the Year 2020. Most recently, she was one of four judges on the jury for the Turner Prize 2023.

Keen speaks regularly at public events and was a keynote speaker at the Museums Association Conference 2020. In 2022, the University of the Arts London (UAL) awarded her an Honorary Doctorate for her contribution to curation and arts management.
