Atelier YokYok has designed Les Chaumes, an immersive installation made out of reused thatch.

Les Chaumes is an immersive installation merging architecture, nature and play.

Three organic, totemic structures stand in the forest, covered in reused thatch, evoking haystacks, animal fur and ceremonial garments.

Visitors step inside, emerging at the top as if wearing the structure like a living costume. Inspired by folklore and natural shelters, the piece highlights sustainable building practices by repurposing 30-year-old reeds from discarded thatched roofs.

This poetic, dreamlike space invites interaction, transformation and reflection on our connection to nature, tradition and reuse.

Created for Forêt Monumentale, it will stand for two years in Rouen's woodland.

This project has been longlisted in the installation design category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
