MOS Architects has designed A Twice Woven Rug for Urban Fabric Rugs, reimagining the traditional flat-woven rug through an innovative production technique rooted in time-honoured weaving traditions.
The Twice Woven Rug series reinterprets traditional weaving by transforming the familiar flat-woven rug into something unexpected. With their irregular structure and tactile depth, these rugs invite close inspection and interaction.
In collaboration with Urban Fabric Rugs, MOS Architects explores a modular technique where narrow handwoven strips are recombined into layered compositions – effectively weaving the rug twice.
The result is a richly textured piece that balances precision with imperfection, echoing the rhythms of traditional craftsmanship while pushing its boundaries.
A Twice Woven Rug is a study in materiality and reinvention – celebrating the beauty of process and the evolving language of textile design.
This project has been longlisted in the textile design category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
