MIT Center for Bits and Atoms has designed the Compound Nested Lattice Modules: Reconfigurable Structures for Sustainable Robotic Assembly system.

Compound Nested Lattice Modules for Sustainable Robotic Assembly is a reusable architectural assembly system made from self-aligning lattice components.

Each module encodes robotic grasping, alignment, reversible connection, structure and aggregation directly into its geometry.

The modules can be assembled by mobile robots and robotic arms into chairs, benches, tables, surfaces, spans and vertical frames, then disassembled and reconfigured into new structures.

This project proposes a circular approach to robotic assembly, where architecture is not a fixed object but an adaptable material system designed for reuse, repair and repeated assembly.
