Hill Country Wine Cave
by Clayton & Little

Casey Dunn.

Clayton & Little has designed a private wine cave that nearly disappears into its surroundings.

The wine cave is embedded into a north facing solid limestone hillside.

The unassuming entry court further camouflages at the approach, through the use of limestone boulders collected from the excavation and lush vegetation.

The exterior opening of the cave is capped with a board-formed concrete portal, meant to weather naturally, which is molded to the irregular surfaces of the limestone.

The private cellar provides storage for a collection of 10,000 bottles.

This project has been longlisted in the small building category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
