Cinema Le Grand Palais
by Antonio Virga Architecte

Pierre Lasvenes

Antonio Virga Architecte has integrated a master plan for a pedestrian square in the centre of Cahors.
A 7-screen cinema accommodating 1,051 people (with an independent museum space), integrated into a master plan for a pedestrian square in the centre of Cahors. The cinema’s façades and roofs are fully covered in brick (for the main building) or metal (for the adjacent building).

It was important to have a timeless architectural expression, to design a building of historical, classical and contemporary intent, without ever being too direct or obvious. The architecture of the cinema stretches out to old Cahors, to the history of the square and to the (lost) concept of old monumental movie theatres.

This project has been longlisted in the civic building category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
