Setoyama by Moriya and Partners

Highly commended: Rural house of the year 2021. Moriya and Partners has designed a villa built on a vast, vertically long site along the river on a cliff on a hill overlooking the sea.

The studio has avoided modifying the surrounding landscape when building Setoyama. This geometric villa is lightly blended into the surrounding environment, disappearing into the forest.

With distinctive triangular spaces and an asymmetric pitched roof, Setoyama becomes a part of the steep slope on which it sits.
