MORE Cabin

m.o.r.e. Cabin by Kariouk Architects
Scott Norsworthy

Kariouk Architects has created a cottage over a lakeside landscape in Canada that places sustainability at the centre of its design.

The project is a cantilevered cottage outside La Pêche, Québec, with a small physical and ecological footprint. It is named for the clients' grandmothers’ names, all of whom did more with less.

The design achieves better sustainability through separation from the landscape, in direct contrast to faux convergence often seen in North American cottages.

The cottage touches the land lightly in both its structure and its environmental impact. It achieves its goals through several structural and process innovations and employs seven ways that address carbon emissions, construction materials and processes, in order to preserve the existing watershed and habitat.

This project has been longlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
